-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------NEW ECO-HOUSE
Designed for zero-carbon consumption, through passive solar heating, natural ventillation using a passive stack system and with high levels of thermal mass, this earth-sheltered house is also a haven for wildlife.
The external skin has been designed with leading ecologists, to be a home for a diversity of species, with bird boxes, bat roosts, bee tubes and even crevices for reptiles to occupy.
The base of the house blends seamlessly with the garden which is designed to provide as much pleasure and sustenance for the wildlife as for the human occupants. The top of the house reflects the changing moods of the sky.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DOMESTIC PROJECTS On a much smaller scale, we can work with any building type to produce renovations and extensions which are in keeping with the original house, and which provide delight to the occupants.
Working sensitively with space and light, we create a hierachy of design which accents the principal features against a simple background, connecting new to old in a way which respects both.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ARTS PROJECTS Art Centres require a particular approach as the architecture needs to be striking in its own right, whilst acting as a backdrop to the events and exhibits within.
Attention to detail is important, and we have, on occasion, designed everything including the furniture.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COMMERCIAL PROJECTS One of our great successes has been to work with the commercial sector bringing enlightened sustainable buildings to the workplace. Well thought-through energy management can achieve savings with relatively short payback periods, but the benefits go far beyond running costs. Designing with and for the people who occupy the buildings leads to significant increase in satisfaction and productivity. Well balanced natural daylight, harmonious colours and integration of the natural and built environments all lead to an enriched working experience.
Natural materials are combined with bespoke steelwork and carefully planned landscaping.
Plently of natural daylight, but designed not to dazzle. The areas to the front are pet exercise areas.
Natural paints and stains are used throughout the interior.
Recreation areas are light and welcoming.
Meeting rooms are designed with a connection to the outside world.
External space for lunch and casual meetings supports the development of inter-colleague relationships.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LABORATORIES Just because a building contains a highly functional environment, it does not mean that it needs to be boring!
Round windows offer a distinct advantage in a laboratory environment. The sills cannot be cluttered up with bottles and specimens.
Individual climates are separated by glass screens, and the public are allowed to enter a glazed corridor so that transparency is maintained.
The brise-soleil was computer designed to ensure that shading was ideal for each lab environment - whilst keeping an artistic approach to the design.
Each unit was designed in close collaboration with the individual staff working in the area so that the needs of the staff and of the research were fully considered.

ARTS AND CRAFTS We are not afraid of getting our hands dirty ourselves, and working practically with different materials nourishes the whole design process.
This is part of an etched glass screen we produced for a church in South Wales. We took it on because no-one else would.
We have also worked extensively with natural materials such as clay and straw. This kiln can reach over 1000deg and still be wet on the outside.
We built our own marquee for use in exhibitions. This is Mark I. If any one would like to commission Mark II we would be delighted.
